The Importance of Meal Prep | Detox Day 23
The biggest excuse for not eating healthy is time.
Time.
Some days I wish I had a few more hours in the day to get all that I want to get done, done. When I am in season, my body is tired, and my brain is fried- the last thing I want to do is spend hours trying to make gourmet meals. I want to eat and sleep. When I have long days, sometimes I do not have a lot of time to make something.
Everyone can relate.
So we eat out of convenience- Fast Food or not eat at all. Maybe we eat the junk snack food in the pantry.
How do you stay healthy when you do not have a lot of time? Meal preparation.
Life is crazy, but we should strive to have consistent, healthy eating patterns. Meal prepping is cooking a bunch different ingredients all at once and storing them, so they are ready to grab and go. I took a ton of food that I bought this past week and prepared a lot of foods that combine well.
I first made a huge container of salad. This salad includes Romain Lettuce, Kale, Spinach, Tomatoes, Cucumbers, and Mushrooms. That way when I want a salad, I take a handful of the premade salad and add some avocado and olive oil.
I also cooked Rice, Beans, and Quinoa. This dish is a simple but powerful base dish to have with lots of protein and carbs. I put those in some containers. When I am ready- I can take a few scoops to heat up for my meal and maybe add some veggies.
Lastly, I cooked a veggie medley that included some Carrots, Zucchini Squash, and Mushrooms with a little bit of Olive Oil and Curry powder.
That is a lot of food.
For lunches the past few days, I cut at Avocado up, added that to the salad and warmed up my veggie medley with my rice, bean, and quinoa mix in a matter of 4 minutes! I had a fantastic meal ready to go! The food prep took me maybe 1.5 hours, but now I have meals for at least a week.
You can get creative with how you meal prep, and you will find your system and what works for you. Cooking in big batches saves you time. We all need time- but do not sacrifice eating healthy for the time.
Eating healthy is vital- so take time in your week to prepare for success!
